David Cohen started the firm in 1983.
He has extensive legal experience in both the public and private sector moving from Premier’s Legal Branch into private practice where he specialises in litigation involving family, criminal, commercial and estate law cases.
Across the years, he has acted for the Building Licensing Board for Insurance Claims and building disputes and is currently on general crime panel, indictable crime panel, serious crime panel and family law panel.
David has extensive experience in family law acting for high-net-worth individuals ranging across complex property matters involving sophisticated trusts and corporate structures, spousal maintenance and high conflict parenting and child support cases.
His expertise has led him to speak at conferences across domestic and international areas.
David briefs a wide circle of experienced barristers with expertise in specialist areas and often appears in Court where he has won a number of significant cases and has successfully appeared in cases which have precedent in particular areas of law.
This has included ensuring that clients do not go to gaol, winning appeals and costs for his clients.
David has great empathy for his clients adopting a pragmatic approach that allows him to identify client’s objectives and provide practical advice to help them achieve a favourable outcome.
As a Board Director of his local Neighbourhood Centre, David is able to use his experience across the wide range of law areas to provide legal advice once a month at the centre in whatever area of law presents itself.
His empathetic approach draws on his community involvement such as during covid -19, when he continued his work on the Board and volunteered at the local community markets to help promote its recovery as restrictions were gradually lifted, providing a safe space for everyone attending.
David understands that everyone’s situation is unique and balances his knowledge of the law with his understanding of the particular needs of his clients.

Elizabeth joined the team after graduating with a JD at Sydney University when she studied Chinese Law and Legal Systems at East China University of Political Science and Law at Shanghai, Advanced Obligations and Remedies (Trust Law) at Cambridge University and Philosophy of Law at Humboldt University in Berlin. She then specialised in Family Law completing a Masters in Applied Family Law.
Elizabeth brings her empathetic approach to analysing client’s legal needs to assist them to resolve the impact of separation on their families and finances. She helps them to crystallise their thoughts and reflect these appropriately in Affidavits and other legal documents so that their case is presented in the best light to the Courts. Often clients are daunted by the whole court system, but Elizabeth takes them through the court system in layman’s language so that they are not overwhelmed by the whole process and can concentrate on getting their lives back on track.
This awareness of clients’ specific needs prompted Elizabeth to take on further studies. Given the very real impact of property orders on the future of clients’ lives, their children’s education and their financial stability, Elizabeth completed a Masters in Business Law and Transactions.
Witnessing the stress that Court appearances had on clients, Elizabeth saw the need to give the clients the opportunity to settle matters expeditiously during the legal process. She completed a Masters in Dispute Resolution and became an Accredited Mediator. In this way, Elizabeth is able to guide clients through every aspect of their family law case and the journey to resolution of their issues.
